Areola Talk: The 411 on Areola Reduction Surgery

Areola Reduction Surgery Salt Lake City, UT When it comes to breast surgeries, the surgery that most patients are familiar with is a breast augmentation which is done to enhance the breasts. But, here at our office, Dr. York Yates provides patients with a variety of different breast surgeries including an areola reduction. If you’re like many people, you may not be as familiar with an areola reduction and what it entails. Let’s take a closer looks at a few of the basics.

What Is An Areola Reduction?

The areola is the dark-colored skin that surrounds your nipple. Many women with large areolas tend to be self-conscious of the size and how much of the breast they take up. An areola reduction is designed to do just what the name suggests— reduce the size of the areola.

What Does Surgery Entail?

This surgery is often done in combination with other breast surgeries like a breast lift or a breast reduction. To reduce the size of the areola, it requires the removal of excess areolar skin. By making a circular incision around the nipple, Dr. Yates will remove excess skin in a doughnut pattern. Once the excess skin has been removed, the outer and inner circles are then closed up with some small incisions.

How Can I Tell If An Areola Reduction Is Right for Me?

During your initial consultation with Dr. York Yates’ office, we will not only perform a brief physical evaluation, but we will also talk with you about all of your questions and concerns. During this time, Dr. Yates will better be able to determine if this type of surgery is right for you.
