It’s normal to sweat when you’re nervous or sweat when you’re working out, but it’s not so normal to sweat through a shirt during the workday for no reason. If you are an excessive sweater then you may suffer from a medical condition called hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is when you have overactive sweat glands which lead to things like sweaty shirts, palms of hands, and feet. If you are sick and tired of feeling embarrassed because of how much you sweat, let Dr. Yates help you fight this problem.
What Kind of Treatments Are There?
Currently, there are two popular hyperhidrosis treatments on the market: Botox and MiraDry. At our Layton Office, we prefer Miradry for hyperhidrosis because it only requires one treatment on average whereas Botox is done on a continuous basis. Over time, Miradry is both more effective and less expensive.
What Is MiraDry?
MiraDry uses MicroWave energy to help destroy the sweat glands which permanently removes them and also helps with hair reduction. It is indicated in cases of hyperhidrosis but also for patients who simply want less sweat, odor, and stains.
What Is the Procedure Like?
To start out, Dr. Yates nonsurgical technician will numb your underarms. Once they are fully numb, they will start the procedure. The procedure itself takes about 90 minutes and is fairly comfortable. Patients typically only complain about the numbing shot.
What Are Results Like?
Patients results vary from person to person, but clinical studies have shown that most patients have a 70% reduction of sweat glands after just one treatment and a 90% reduction after two treatments.
