While brides usually get caught up worrying about their looks before their wedding, grooms have their fair share of pre-wedding appearance blues. We’re not talking about makeup or washboard abs; men afflicted with oversized breasts would settle for addressing this single condition.
Knowing Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia, a medical term that came from the Greek word that literally means “lady-like breasts,” is the expansion of male breasts caused by irregularities in a person’s glandular tissues. This may seem like rare condition, but actually it is present in 40 to 60 percent of men in varying degrees. This endocrine disorder is often ignored by men: by hiding their breasts under loose clothes, many patients try to reassure themselves that there is no problem in the first place.
Breast Reduction for Men
The best option for gynecomastia is to have breast reduction. This procedure may involve liposuction to reduce the size of male breasts. Overabundant glandular tissues may have to be removed, as well. For patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and have a good deal of excess skin, excision with breast shaping may be recommended. Breast reshaping can be performed at the time of liposuction or breast excision. The procedure usually takes two hours.
