Salt Lake Plastic Surgery – Credentials Matter

While recently attending a conference, I met a doctor who was exploring the cosmetic market. His training was in ObGyn and he has likely delivered thousands of babies with a very high success rate in the New York area. Because of new insurance restrictions, and with greater government oversight on that type of medical care forthcoming, he started looking at ways to change his practice. He decided that a cosmetic practice was a good idea.

Problem: through the course of our discussion, he mentioned that 3 years ago, he had never even heard of liposuction. After a few weekend courses, and with the purchase of a machine he opened up a cosmetic surgery practice. My jaw about hit the ground. Unfortunately, with the changing landscape of medicine in the United States and here in Salt Lake City, UT – it is likely that we will see more and more of these undertrained Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Practices springing up. With a few weekend courses, and with relative lack of training in liposuction, tummy tucks, breast augmentations – doctors will open shop claiming Board Certification.

The governing group for medical boards in the United States is the American Board of Medical Specialities and the only board they recognize to perform these types of procedures are doctors certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. York Yates, a Plastic Surgeon in Salt Lake City is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He takes his job seriously and has been through years of training to understand the intricacies involved in performing these procedures.

Please do your homework and understand what Board Certification really means. Contact Dr. York Yates to schedule your consultation today.
