Utah Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is surgery intended to improve appearance.  It would make sense that a cosmetic surgeon is a surgeon specifically trained to perform cosmetic surgery.  Unfortunately it is not as intuitive as that.  The term “cosmetic surgeon” does not imply or guarantee the qualifications of the surgeon.  There are no Utah or federal laws or regulations protecting the general public in this matter.  Anyone with a medical license can call themselves a “cosmetic surgeon” regardless of their training.

A “cosmetic surgeon” in Utah could be a Dentists, Oral Surgeon, Obstetrician, Family Physician or Radiologist.  All excellent in their chosen field, but cosmetic plastic surgery was not that field.  On the job trial and error or a weekend course is usually their only training.

To make a smart decision, the patient needs to educate themselves on how to choose a plastic surgeon.
