Scars resulting from trauma or previous surgery occasionally become unsightly or painful. Some of these benefit from “starting over” with a scar revision. Scars that have shown a propensity to poor scarring require special attention to technique. Unfortunately technique is only one component of the eventual appearance of the scar. Often just as important as surgical technique is the patients own scarring profile which is genetically determined. Particularly prone areas of the body for poor scarring are the sternum, upper arm, back, and earlobe.
