Brazilian Butt Lift / BBL/ Butt Augmentation in Salt Lake City & Layton, Utah

Today curves are in, and that’s a good thing. Gone is the unhealthy, emaciated look of 90s models, along with their straight, shapeless figures. The unique curves of a woman’s figure are now celebrated. But if your bottom is flatter than you’d like, it’s not as if you can work out and make it significantly bigger. Of course, if you gain weight your bottom could become bigger but that’s not the way to go about it. A Brazilian Butt Lift with Dr. York Yates can transform a flat, shapeless backside into a rounder, shapelier one. A Brazilian Butt Lift is basically a fat transfer to augment the buttocks. What is Butt Augmentation?

The goal of a Butt Augmentation a.k.a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is to add size and shape to your backside. In this procedure, Dr. Yates uses liposuction to harvest fat from an unwanted area, such as the upper thighs or abdomen, and that fat is then purified. This fat is then injected in strategic locations across the buttocks to add volume and improve shape. Dr. Yates pays particular attention to the upper buttocks when injecting the fat. This is the area of the buttocks that flattens and descends somewhat with age.

How soon will I see results after BBL?

Results are IMMEDIATE. Your final results are still several weeks away but BBL is a procedure with dramatic results seen the following day. Here is a patient of ours as an example.

How long does BBL last?

The results from BBL are permanent. That is not to say that your body will not age or change with weight loss or gain, but the new proportions and curves are yours to keep. FOREVER!

What are the benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is all about adding shape and curve to your backside. It’s about filling out your jeans or your swimsuit bottom. If you’ve always felt your bottom was too flat or lacked the curves you wanted, this can change all of that. Plus, by utilizing your own fat, there’s nothing artificial being injected or implanted into your bottom. And don’t forget that the fat we’re going to use is first removed from an area where you don’t want it. That’s a double benefit with these procedures.

Who is a good candidate for a BBL?

If you had a flatter bottom than you’d like, previously the only way to augment it was to place silicone butt implants. Dr. Yates never performed these procedures, as they had high complication rates. In contrast, a Brazilian Butt Lift simply uses your own fat and moves it from where you don’t want it to where you do. Dr. Yates can perform a butt lift to add volume and roundness to a flat or small butt, or he can add size, giving the patient a more prominent butt.

The great thing about a BBL is that it uses your own fat to augment your backside. Dr. Yates believes this creates a more natural look. Plus, there is a much lower risk of infection, and since it’s your own fat there are zero risks of an allergic reaction. Plus, liposuction to harvest the fat can be used to contour the areas around the buttocks to further enhance the changes. Anyone who has been unhappy with the shape, contour, or overall size of their backside would be a great candidate for a BBL with Dr. Yates. Really the only requirement for these procedures is that the patient has enough unwanted fat that can be harvested to use for the transfer.

“I went to various surgeons before making a decision for my bbl, why Doctor Yates?… he’s a perfectionist, and he is realist, he will tell you in detail of your outcome and what he suggests, love my results. All my friends compliment my results, one of my good friends is already making an appointment to see him. I recommend 100%”- Source: RealSelf

How is BBL performed?

BBL, which is buttock augmentation with fat grafting, is much more than adding volume to the buttock. Reduction and reshaping of the surrounding tissue with liposuction is often the essential aspect of BBL. Excess fat in undesired areas around the buttocks is harvested with liposuction. This is often performed entirely around the torso and waist, 360 lipo. The fat must be treated delicately and concentrated in a sterile environment. This fat is transferred into the buttocks in a 3-dimensional method to achieve the desired shape.

VASER Liposuction and BBL?

VASER lipo BBL can be used as an additional liposuction tool to enhance the BBL result. The fat is treated with VASER ultrasound energy to emulsify the fat before removal. The quality and “take” of the fat is improved which can lead to improved results. There is less bruising and swelling of the liposuction areas which can lead to an easier recovery.

I’m skinny, can I still get a BBL?

The limit to how much fat can be transferred is 1) usable fat and 2) the starting size of the buttock. The amount of fat excess and starting buttock often leads to a more conservative result in thin or skinny BBL patients. Dr. Yates may choose to add VASER lipo to achieve a greater fat harvest volume and improved “take” of the transferred fat.

Recovery After BBL

Butt augmentation and Brazilian Butt Lift recovery is a fairly tough recovery as there should be very little pressure on the area for at least a week and preferably 4 weeks after the procedure. This includes sitting and lying on the back. Visit the recovery page on this website for more.

What are the risks with a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Demand for this procedure is high and that leads to charlatans getting into the game. People who either don’t have the necessary training or experience with this process have led to some serious complications in patients. Dr. Yates is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, ensuring the level of expertise necessary to perform all of the procedures we offer. Still, there are risks with a Brazilian Butt Lift. As mentioned above, however, it’s critical that patients do their research when it comes to the level of training of the surgeon. There are the same risks involved with this procedure as with any surgery: infection, reaction to anesthesia, excessive bleeding, fluid accumulation, and the like. Specific to this procedure are these risks:

  • Numbness or changes in skin sensation
  • Fat necrosis
  • Asymmetry between buttocks
  • Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications
  • Skin discoloration
  • Prolonged swelling
  • Enduring pain
  • Need for a revision procedure

“I absolutely love and adore everything about Dr. York Yates and his whole entire team. I have had several procedures done by him, and I will continue to stay loyal and return for anything further I may need. Considering anyone else would be a injustice to yourself. He is hands down the best surgeon. He is very down-to-earth, charming, honest and kind … He is a perfectionist with a highly artistic eye for the female body shape. His nurses and team, you can tell were hand-picked by him… They are all outstanding human beings as well. They all make you feel like family. His anesthesiologist is very professional, has a way of putting you at ease and gives you a good laugh or two before you go to sleep. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Yates and his whole establishment. Thank you for helping me fall in love with myself again”- Source: RealSelf

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift painful?

These aren’t really painful procedures. The tumescent liposuction Dr. Yates uses to harvest the fat is only minimally invasive and doesn’t create anything more than mild soreness afterward. The injection points where the fat is injected into your buttocks can be sore for a few days, but this is easy to manage with over-the-counter pain medication. Really, the most “painful” part of this procedure is having to not sit or lie directly on your buttocks for 2 weeks after your procedure. It’s not the pain of the nerve sort, but of the awkwardness sort.

What is the cost of a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or Butt Augmentation?

The cost of BBL is quite variable depending on the areas of liposuction desired. You can typically expect to pay a standard fee for liposuction and an additional fee for the fat grafting component. Our pricing is transparently displayed on the “costs of plastic surgery” pages of this website.

Butt Augmentation FAQs

The most appealing buttock shape is often a matter of personal taste. Some women desire a narrow athletic buttock shape, some women prefer an exaggerated roundness with maximal projection. When designing a BBL it is often helpful to know if the patient desires a fuller upper buttock, central buttock, or lower buttock. An upper fullness is often described as a shelf. Middle fullness creates roundness. Lower fullness is often called “heart-shaped”. I couldn’t find any artwork that adequately depicted these differences so I drew some myself.

UPPER FULLNESS “SHELF”
ROUND
LOWER FULLNESS ‘HEART-SHAPED’

There perfect buttock size is a matter of taste. Consider whether you prefer a narrower, longer buttock common in athletes or a larger, wider buttock with a large hip to waist ratio. Some patient refer to this exaggerated result as “snatched”

LARGE AND EXAGERRATED “SNATCHED”
MEDIUM AND BALANCED
SMALL “ATHLETIC”

Yes, the fat that survives the transfer during a Brazilian Butt Lift permanently augments the buttocks. This is not ALL of the fat that is transferred. The amount of fat that survives is in the range of 50-80%. This percentage varies based on the amount of fat transferred during the BBL, the nature of the area grafted into and the technique used.

Bodies vary from culture to culture. On the whole, Brazilian women are often more blessed in the buttock region. There is also an exercise routine of the same name.

Aesthetic and cosmetic trends change from generation to generation. Sir Mix-a-lot was a little ahead of his time in 1992 with his single, “Baby Got Back.” At that time a flat, athletic butt was more desirable by most. Fast forward 20+ years, and we are now finding many women of various cultures want more curves and a fuller, rounder butt. Since 2012, we have seen the number of Brazilian butt lift procedures performed in the U.S. has increased in popularity by 10 – 20% per year.

Fat grafting is the most common, and best method of butt augmentation, but other options do exist.

  • Buttock implants are similar to breast implants but have a much broader and flatter shape. They are typically placed through an incision within the gluteal crease and can be placed above, below, or within the muscle. Butt implants have a fairly high complication rate, and Dr. Yates chooses not to do this procedure due to the complications.
  • Fillers – Most commonly Sculptra. The results are minimal, and the procedure is expensive and temporary.
  • Emsculpt for buttock augmentation. This is a new category of cosmetic procedures designed to build muscle to enhance the buttock. This is a different, more athletic type of buttock enhancement than achieved with fat transfer. It is a conservative size result in comparison to BBL With continued exercise and Emsulpt maintenance treatments, the result can be permanent.

Emsculpt is a new category of non-surgical treatment that has been offered in Dr. Yates practice since 2019. A series of four, 30-minute treatments are performed in a two-week period. The treatment uses strong electromagnetic energy resulting in thousands of supra-maximal contractions. The result is a 15-20% increase in muscle bulk in the buttock and lifting of the skin.

There is some degree of butt lifting with either fat grafting or butt implants for butt augmentation. For patients with more significant skin excess in the gluteal region, a buttock lift or thigh lift is more successful.
