After liposuction, does the fat just come back somewhere else?

Many patients who would otherwise be great candidates for liposuction are concerned about this one.  No, the fat does not somehow appear somewhere else on your body.  In reality the fat will come back to the treatment site and to other places if you gain weight after liposuction.

That shouldn’t be considered a negative, however.   If a patient gains weight after liposuction, the contour is generally maintained.  In other words that bulge will still be gone.  The rest of the body gains and looses weight with diet and exercise just as it normally would.

The analagous argument regarding weight loss in general would be something like “after weight loss if I gain weight won’t the fat just come back?”  Of course, which is why diet and exercise after the procedure to maintain the results is important.
