Breast implant massage technique

Breast implant massage is used by nearly all plastic surgeons following breast augmentation surgery.  The value of breast implant massage is controversial.  The goal of breast implant massage is to help avoid capsular contracture.  This involves moving the implant in all directions within the breast implant pocket.  In reality, breast implants placed beneath the muscle are moving a little all day long and implant massage may be redundant.

Breast implant massage and displacement exercises is for smooth walled breast implants only.  Textured implants are not supposed to move in the implant pocket.

Dr. Yates recommends breast implant massage to all of his patients starting at 3 weeks after surgery continuing for the first 2-3 months after breast augmentation surgery.
